The House of Representatives has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) to suspend any further disbursements to ZTE Corporation pending satisfactory explanations on the execution of the $460 million Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance project in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
House ad-hoc committee probing the $460million being a Chinese loan obtained to finance FCT CCTV project issued the directives at its resumed hearing in Abuja on Tuesday.
The lawmakers expressed deep frustration over what they described as inconsistencies, vague responses, and a lack of transparency from ZTE officials regarding the scope, deployment locations, and current operational status of the project.
The committee also mandated the company to reappear with comprehensive and verifiable documentation, including a detailed inventory of all equipment supplied and installed and precise locations of the infrastructure nationwide.
Others are the identities and contact details of the 456 Nigerians the company claimed were trained to operate and maintain the system.
The decision followed the adoption of a motion moved by member representing Bursari/Geidam/Yunusari federal constituency of Yobe state Hon. Ali Shettima.
The committee’s chairman, Hon. Donald Ojogo had explained that the exercise was not a witch-hunt but a fact-finding mission aimed at addressing growing public concern.
“This is a constructive engagement, not an attempt to witch-hunt anyone. Nigerians deserve clear answers, and we expect ZTE to respond in line with the documents before us,” he stated.
Representative of the company, Irene Momoh said ZTE supplied and installed CCTV infrastructure in Abuja and Lagos, noting that the project was completed between 2011 and 2012.
However, under questioning, he admitted uncertainty about the current functionality of the system.
“To the best of our knowledge, the equipment was delivered and installed within the project timeline, but I cannot confirm its present operational status,” Momoh said.
The response sparked strong reactions from lawmakers, who questioned how a project of such magnitude could lack a sustainable maintenance and continuity framework.
Momoh explained that ZTE had an initial three-month maintenance agreement, which it voluntarily extended to six months before handing over the system.
The company’s representative attributed the project’s decline to the government’s inability to sustain funding post-handover.
“There was no continued funding from the government to maintain and run the system after handover,” Momoh added.
Despite this explanation, lawmakers challenged several of the company’s claims, particularly on the geographical spread of the installations.
Citing documents from the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs, a member of the panel, Hon. Iyawe Esosa disputed ZTE’s assertion that installations were limited to Abuja and Lagos.
“Official records indicate installations in Edo State. As someone who lives in Benin City, I can confidently say these facilities do not exist in the listed locations,” he said.
Momoh, however, maintained that all items captured in the Bill of Quantities were duly supplied and installed in accordance with contractual terms.
Another member, Kolawale Akinlayo rejected claims of installations in Ekiti State, insisting there was no evidence of deployment across the state.
“None of the locations listed, including Ado-Ekiti, has any of these facilities. Outside Lagos, there is no visible deployment in the South-West,” he asserted.
The committee’s members were enraged when Momoh attributed gaps in his responses to the fact that he only assumed office in 2023, noting that several officials involved in the original contract were no longer with the company.
Lawmakers viewed this as an attempt to evade responsibility and warned of a possible referral to the Nigerian Bar Association for disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, a representative of the CBN, Josiah Okike asked the committee to route its directive through the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation for proper implementation.
He disclosed that as of March 2026, ZTE was due to receive $15.37 million under the loan repayment arrangement.
The committee, therefore resolved to invite the company for further questioning and insisted on documentary proof of project handover, including details of the government agencies that assumed custody of the infrastructure.

Qualcomm Incorporated has unveiled 10 startups selected for the 2026 edition of its Make in Africa Mentorship Programme, reaffirming its commitment to advancing the continent’s deep-technology ecosystem.
The initiative now in its fourth year, is part of the Qualcomm Africa Innovation Platform, designed to support early-stage startups through mentorship, training and intellectual property (IP) development.
The selected startups emerged from over 1,200 applications across more than 45 African countries, reflecting growing interest and sophistication in Africa’s innovation landscape.
Among the 2026 cohort are two Nigerian startups — Anatsor Ltd, which offers a digital poultry management system, and D-Olivette Labs, a bio-intelligence platform aimed at improving agricultural productivity through data-driven insights.
Other selected startups include Amperra Charging Company (Namibia), Mindora Corporation (Zimbabwe), MVUTU (Republic of the Congo), QualiKeeper Investments Ltd (Zambia), SafeSip (Tanzania), Sesi Technologies Ltd (Ghana), TWave Ltd (Uganda), and Zerobionic (Kenya).
President, Middle East and Africa at Qualcomm, Wassim Chourbaji, said the quality of applications reflects a maturing African innovation ecosystem.
“This year’s startups’ achievements are a powerful testament to Africa’s flourishing innovation ecosystem. Four years into Qualcomm Make in Africa, what stands out is not only the growing number of applications we receive, but the increasing sophistication of the solutions being built,” he said.
He added that the selected startups are leveraging emerging technologies to address real-world challenges across the continent.
“These startups are pushing the boundaries of what technologies such as Edge AI and 5G can enable, and how they can be deployed at scale across the continent. Qualcomm is proud to support and help guide this next wave of African high-tech innovation, from early design and product development to real-world commercialisation.”
Participants will receive equity-free support, including engineering consultations, business coaching, and access to development tools such as Arduino AI-enabled platforms.
Vice President and General Manager, Arduino at Qualcomm Technologies, Fabio Violante, said the initiative will accelerate innovation from concept to deployment.
“Arduino UNO Q and the upcoming Arduino VENTUNO Q give the 2026 Qualcomm Make in Africa cohort a fast path from idea to intelligent machine. By bringing perception, decision-making, and actuation onto a single, affordable board, founders can prototype and deploy edge-AI solutions directly where challenges exist in farms, clinics, factories, and cities.”
Startups will also benefit from intellectual property support, including patent advisory services from Adams & Adams and access to L2Pro Africa, an e-learning platform focused on IP education.
At the end of the programme, participants will qualify for a $5,000 stipend upon successful completion, while eligible startups can receive up to $5,000 in patent filing reimbursements. One standout startup will also secure funding from the Qualcomm for Good Social Impact Fund.
The African Telecommunications Union returns as a strategic partner for the fourth consecutive year, underscoring the programme’s growing importance to Africa’s digital ecosystem.
Secretary General of ATU, John Omo, said the partnership aligns with efforts to deepen technology-driven solutions across the continent.
“The ATU’s key mandate is to ensure that Africa’s telecommunications ecosystem serves Africa’s people. Qualcomm Make in Africa embodies that same principle by putting cutting-edge technology directly in the hands of African innovators to solve African challenges.”
He added that the organisation is committed to strengthening its contribution to the programme’s success.
“Having seen firsthand the quality of the startups this programme produces, returning as a partner in 2026 was not a question of if, but of how we could deepen our contribution. We look forward to seeing this cohort carry that work forward.”
The programme will culminate in a finale where one startup will receive additional funding support, as Qualcomm continues to position Africa as a hub for next-generation technology innovation.

Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has assured families of military and police officers slained in a recent attack in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State of the Federal Government’s continued support.
He reiterated the President’s resolve not to allow the efforts and gallantry of officers of the armed forces and other security agencies to go in vain.

According to a statement by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha ,Senator Shettima gave the assurance on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital, when he led the federal government’s delegation on a condolence visit to the state governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, over the killing of some security officers as well as the passing of the Speaker of Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Usman Zuru, in Cairo, Egypt, on Monday, April 7.
The Vice President reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to supporting the families of fallen heroes, stressing that the welfare of armed forces personnel and their families remains a top priority under the Tinubu administration.
He said, “We are here in Kebbi, your Excellency, at the behest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to commiserate with you, and to register our profound condolences and empathy over the sad developments in your state, in the past couple of days.
“The demise of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, the late Hon. Muhammed Usman Zuru, the destruction of our communities in Shanga Local Government Area and, of course, the loss of our eleven gallant officers.
“We are here to condole with you, the security establishment in Kebbi State and the government and people of Kebbi. Our hearts are with you.”
VP Shettima disclosed that already, President Tinubu has instructed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials to families of the fallen heroes and the displaced communities affected by the sad developments.

“The President also instructed me to come with the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to ensure that adequate measures are put in place to give succour and support to the displaced communities.
“We are going to support you. We appreciate you, we adore you, we respect you, and we will take whatever measures that are necessary for you to do your duties as you ought to do.”
The VP prayed for the repose of the deceased, asking Almighty Allah to grant them peace and eternal rest as well give the government and people of the state the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
“Your Excellency, please accept, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our profound condolences over the loss of lives and properties. May Allah grant the souls of the deceased eternal rest and reward them with his Aljannah firdaus.
“May Allah also give the government and people of Kebbi State the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses. Please extend the condolences of Mr. President to the families of our fallen heroes. May their souls rest in perfect peace,” he prayed.
The Vice President further commended Governor Idris for infrastructure development and improved investment in education in the state over the past three years.
“Kebbi is home; I would have loved to come on a much more joyous occasion to celebrate with his Excellency. He has done outstandingly well within the last three years. The infrastructural development is excellent- very good investment in education – and, of course, his sense of inclusivity, making all tendencies within Kebbi to have a sense of belonging.
“Your Excellency, the President appreciates you, the President loves you and most importantly the President respect you,” VP Shettima stated, just as he also commiserated with the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, on the demise of his sister recently.
On his part, Governor Idris said security agencies in the state are doing their best and are cooperating with state authorities in tackling the challenges in the area.

The governor said despite the challenges experienced recently, there were improvement in terms of response and tact by security agencies deployed to the state.
He expressed appreciation to the federal government for sending a high powered delegation, under the leadership of vice president Shettima, to condole with the people of kebbi State and the families of the slain officers who lost their lives in the recent attack, as well as the speaker who passed on in Egypt.
The governor told the Vice President that the state government had already donated N60 million to the families of the eleven slain officers to support them.
He also announced that the communities recently displaced by bandits have been resettled by the state government, adding that adequate security measures were being put in place to prevent the reoccuraence of such ugly situation.
While expressing gratitude to the Vice President for leading a federal government delegation to condole with the people of Kebbi State, the Emir of Zuru, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Sanusi Mikailu Sami, prayed for peaceful coexistence in Kebbi State and the entire nation.
On the entourage of the Vice President were the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President), Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia; Speaker Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan; Special Adviser to the President on General Duties (Office of the Vice President), Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, and the Director General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, among others.

The federal government said Jilli axis where the Nigerian Air Force carried out a precision counter-terrorism strike has been designated a high-risk zone with clear security advisories restricting civilian presence.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, said this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.
Idris extended the government’s deepest condolences to the families of those affected, and sympathised with the injured.
According to him, every Nigerian life is sacred, and any loss of life is deeply regretted.
“On April 11, 2026, the Nigerian Air Force, under Operation HADIN KAI, carried out a precision counter-terrorism strike on confirmed terrorist targets in the Jilli axis, Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.
“The federal government reiterates that this was a deliberate, intelligence-led operation, not an indiscriminate attack, conducted in one of the most active insurgent corridors in the North-East.
“The area had been designated a high-risk zone with clear security advisories restricting civilian presence.
“The federal government extends its deepest condolences to the families of those affected and sympathises with the injured. Every Nigerian life is sacred, and any loss of civilian life is deeply regretted.”
The minister said the operation followed sustained intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.
“The Jilli axis, locally known as “Kasu Daulaye” (the terrorists’ market), has long functioned as an insurgent-controlled enclave.
“Intelligence confirmed that Boko Haram and ISWAP operatives used the area to collect levies, procure supplies, and coordinate attacks.
“This assessment was reinforced on April 12, when troops apprehended a 15-year-old ISWAP courier, Tijjani, in Ngamdu.
“He admitted to moving funds and logistics between Jilli and other locations, highlighting the depth of terrorist activity in the area and the exploitation of civilians, including minors.”
The minister said Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State also confirmed that Jilli and Gazabure markets had been officially closed five years ago due to insurgent control.
He said that Zulum described the area as a known hub for terrorist operations.
“This aligns with intelligence that informed the strike.
“The Bindul–Jilli axis has consistently been identified as a major terrorist corridor.
“In January, troops suffered casualties from an IED attack along the route, while coordinated attacks in Ngamdu and Benisheikh on April 9 were linked to the same network.”
The minister said the April 11 strike followed weeks of surveillance in response to escalating threats.
“After a rigorous targeting process, the Nigerian Air Force, working with the Nigerian Army, confirmed the presence of terrorist elements and executed the strike to disrupt supply lines and degrade insurgent capacity.”
He said the federal government had ordered a full and independent investigation into the incident.
According to him, this will review intelligence, targeting, and execution, and we will address any gaps and ensure accountability where needed.
“The protection of civilian lives remains a core obligation of the Armed Forces.
“The government is working with the Borno and Yobe State governments, as well as NEMA and SEMA, to provide humanitarian support to affected families.
“Operational safeguards will also be strengthened.”
The minister urged civilians to strictly observe security advisories, avoid restricted zones, and cooperate with security agencies.
He said that public cooperation was essential in conflict areas.
“The federal government calls on the media to act with responsibility in reporting security matters.
“In times of crisis, unverified reporting can mislead the public, embolden terrorists, and undermine national efforts.”
According to Idris, press freedom must be matched with responsibility.
He said that the public deserved verified and accurate information, especially on matters of national security.
“Nigeria continues to demonstrate its commitment to defeating terrorism through concrete action.
“The Attorney General of the Federation recently disclosed that 386 convictions were secured from 508 terrorism-related cases in a landmark trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
“The convictions, involving Boko Haram and ISWAP suspects, included sentences up to life imprisonment, with offenders found guilty of providing material support to insurgents,” he said.
Idris said that observers from Amnesty International, the Nigerian Bar Association, and the National Human Rights Commission monitored the trials.
He said the government had also published a list of 48 individuals and entities linked to terrorism financing, reinforcing that there is no safe haven for those who support terrorism.
The minister said the federal government remained resolute in its commitment to defeating terrorism and banditry.
According to him, it will not allow the exploitation of tragic incidents to weaken national resolve or undermine the mission of the Armed Forces.
“The government remains committed to greater precision, accountability, and sustained action until lasting peace is achieved,” he said.

Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) and Bank of Industry (BOI) have reinforced efforts to integrate small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into Nigeria’s formal capital market, taking their financing advocacy to Kano as part of a broader national engagement drive.
The Kano workshop follows the inaugural edition held in Lagos last year, signalling a more structured push by both institutions to bridge the gap between Nigeria’s SME ecosystem and long-term capital.
With the theme, ‘Unlocking Growth – Harnessing the Capital Market for SME Growth’, the workshop moved beyond advocacy to practical engagement, equipping participants with insights on financing pathways, governance structures, and long-term growth strategies within the capital market.
Group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group, Dr Umaru Kwairanga, said enabling entrepreneurship requires more than access to funding.
He noted that the right institutional structures and market platforms are critical to unlocking sustainable growth.
“Kano provides a fitting backdrop for this engagement, not only as a historic commercial hub but as a gateway to significant untapped potential. The priority is to connect that potential to capital and the frameworks required for long-term growth,” he said.
The chief executive officer of NGX, Jude Chiemeka, emphasised the central role of SMEs in strengthening market depth and resilience, noting that recent market performance continues to reflect investor confidence despite macroeconomic pressures.
“Through initiatives like this, we are demystifying the capital market and demonstrating that with the right structure and governance, SMEs can access capital to scale sustainably,” he said.
Executive director, MSME at BOI, Oluwatoyin Ahmed Edu, said the bank remains focused on bridging financing gaps for businesses that may not yet meet listing requirements.
“Where viable enterprises require capacity building before accessing the market, BOI is positioned to provide the necessary support to prepare them for that transition,” he noted.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Shehu Muhammed Dankade highlighted the region’s strong entrepreneurial base, particularly the growing participation of women-led businesses, describing it as a signal of resilience and economic potential.
The workshop featured detailed presentations from NGX on listing requirements, corporate governance, and the use of the NGX Growth Board as a platform for raising long-term capital. It also created space for direct engagement with SME operators across Northern Nigeria, offering insights into their challenges, growth ambitions, and readiness to access structured financing.
The initiative aligns with NGX Group’s broader strategy to position SMEs as a critical engine of economic growth, while strengthening the institutional pathways that enable businesses to transition from informal operations to investment-ready enterprises.
Former National Deputy Chairman, African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr Nafiu-Bala Gombe, on Tuesday prayed the Federal High Court in Abuja to adjourn the case before it indefinitely.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sen. David Mark, the embattled National Chairman of ADC and the 2nd defendant in the suit filed by Gombe at FHC, had appealed against the March 12 judgment of the Appeal Court.
Gombe, through his lawyer, Lukman Fagbemi, SAN, urged Justice Emeka Nwite to adjourn the suit he filed “sine die” (Indefinitely) pending the Supreme Court decision.
The development occurred shortly when the matter was called before Justice Nwite.
The judge had asked the parties upon resumed hearing on the suit what was the position of the matter presently.
Responding, Fagbemi said: “at our last adjourned date on Feb 13, and that was the day this honourable court, upon the application of the 2nd defendant (Mark), made an order adjourning this matter sine die to wait for the outcome of the interlocutory appeal filed by the same 2nd defendant my Lord.
“Indeed, that is a valid order all courts will make in such circumstance.”
According to him, on March 11, 2026, the Court of Appeal heard the interlocutory appeal and the judgment delivered the next day, being March 12, 2026, dismissing the interlocutory appeal my Lord.
He said: “in that judgment, the court made an order of accelerated hearing before this honourable court.
“At the same time, made a preservatorry order directing all parties not to take any step or further step that would amount to destroying the res (subject matter) before this honourable court by maintaining status quo ante bellum.”
Fagbemi said considering the nature of the matter, all the parties should havr come before the judge to ensure that the matter is taking on merit.
He, however, said that Mark, by way of exercising his constitutional right of appeal, filed an appeal at the apex court on March 16.
He said the record of appeal had been transferred to the Supreme Court on March 31.
Besides, Fagbemi said Mark on April 1 also filed a motion at the Supreme Court for stay of execution of the order made by the Court of Appeal.
“We were summoned by the Supreme Court upon the entry of that appeal my lord, and all parties appeared before the Supreme Court this morning,” he said.
According to the lawyer, the application for stay of execution was not taken which was eventually withdrawn and struck out.
He, however, said that the apex court directed all parties to file and exchange briefs within a time fame and adourned the hearing of the appeal until April 22.
Fagbemi, therefore, sought an adjournment of the case indefinitely to await the decision of the apex court.
“With all these developments, it is clear that , in turn, the Supreme Court is ceased with the entry of the appeal.
“This legally means that all parties, including this honourable court, is legally bound to await the outcome of the Supreme Court decision.
“The order of your lordship made on Feb 13, to adjourn sine die, is still valid as far as the appeal before the Supreme Court is concerned.
“We therefore, urged your lordship to enjoin all parties to await the outcome of the Supreme Court.
“The law is very clear. That is our humble submission,” he said.
But counsel to the ADC, Shaibu Aruwa, SAN; lawyer to Mark, Sulaiman Usman, SAN; Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s lawyer, Mohammed Sheriff, and A.O. Olawuyi, who appeared for Chief Ralph Nwosu, vehemently opposed Fagbmi’s application for indefinite adjournment.
They argeud that the motion for stay of execution and proceeding filed at the Sureme Court had been struck out after it was withdrawn, hence, the lower court can proceed with the case.
Besides, they argued that based on the Court of Appeal’s judgment, the lower court was ordered to conduct an accelerated hearing of the case and that this order had not be set aside.
“What is before the Supreme Court is a narrow issue; whether this honourable court has jurisdiction.
“By the provision of Section 83(6) Paragraph A of the Electoral Act, 2026, the subject matter of this suit has become sues generis such that it should be heard in accelerated manner.
“I will also refer my Lord to the motion ex-parte I filed wherin I apply that this court should take this suit during Easter vacation from day to day, including Saturday and Sunday, for the fact that the 1st defebdant has already published its timetable for the 2027 general elections and the 1st defendant is expected to start its conduct of primary elections for the nomination of its candidates,’ Aruwa had argued.
On his part, Usman submitted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) misinterpreted one of the orders made by the Court of Appeal by removing the names of Mark and Aregbesola as national chairman and national secretary of ADC.
He said against this development, he filed a motion for the court to reverse INEC’s decision since such action could only be made by the court.
However, lawyer to INEC, Hassan Aminu, did not take any position in the matter.
“The 4th defendant is not taking any position in this matter as we have indicated. My lord, we leave it to your lordship’s discretion,” he said.
After taking all the lawyers’ arguments, Justice Nwite stood down the matter for a ruling.(NAN)

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun said Nigeria wil continue to work the Intergovernmental Group of 24 (G24) member countries to strengthen collective advocacy.
Edun said this during the G24 meeting at the International Monetary Fund (IMF)/World Bank Group spring meetings in Washington on Tuesday.
He said that the G24 meeting on International Monetary Affairs and Development convened at a critical moment for the global economy, as emerging markets and developing economies continue to face multiple and overlapping shocks.
The minister listed the shocks to include geopolitical tensions, tighter financial conditions, and climate-related vulnerabilities.
He said that the G24 would work on advocacy issues central to the development agenda of emerging and developing economies.
“Today’s discussions focused on key priorities, including, strengthening global economic resilience in the face of persistent shocks.
“It also focused on enhancing the international financial architecture, including IMF quota and governance reforms, expanding access to adequate and predictable development financing.
“It addressed rising debt vulnerabilities and improving debt resolution frameworks, supporting job creation, inclusive growth, and long-term structural transformation,” he said.
He said that there was also the issue of reinforcing multilateral cooperation between the IMF, the World Bank Group, and other international partners.

Former First Lady of Oyo State and Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Austria, Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, has denied allegations linking her to a purported financial inducement scheme aimed at influencing members of the Oyo State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde.
In a press release issued by her media office on Tuesday, Ajimobi described the allegations as “entirely false, baseless, and a deliberate act of disinformation,” insisting they were designed to damage her reputation and mislead the public.
The denial came amid a wave of political claims and counter-claims involving lawmakers in Oyo State, including earlier assertions that certain political actors were attempting to destabilise the state government ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reacting specifically to the allegations, Mrs Ajimobi dismissed suggestions that she convened or attended any meeting in Lagos or elsewhere where discussions about impeachment against the State governor or political manipulation allegedly took place.
“At no time did I convene, attend, or participate in any such meeting with any individual or group for the purpose of discussing impeachment or destabilizing the Oyo State Government,” she said.
She maintained that any attempt to associate her with such activities was politically motivated.
“The attempt to link my name to the allegations is a malicious political propaganda aimed at bringing me into disrepute, particularly among the people of Oyo State and beyond,” the statement added.
Ajimobi further distanced herself from partisan developments in the state, stressing that she had no involvement in internal political disputes within the ruling party.
“Activities of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State are of no concern to me. Linking me to such a plot could only be borne out of mischief and deliberate reverse propaganda to malign my reputation,” she stated.
Reaffirming her commitment to peace and democratic values, the former First Lady said she had never engaged in actions capable of undermining the stability of the state.
The statement also warned that the spread of false information could heighten political tension and noted that legal action may be taken if the allegations are not retracted.
Ajimobi added that she remains focused on humanitarian and public service engagements, saying she would not be distracted by what she described as “unfounded and mischievous claims.”
LEADERSHIP reports that the development followed earlier statements by members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, including Hon. Gbenga Oyekola alleging that some actors, including Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Rasheed Ladoja and others, were attempting to sway State lawmakers and destabilise the Assembly, while also referencing alleged political overtures involving various figures, claims which have continued to generate mixed reactions across the state’s political space.

Preparations for Nigeria’s biggest multi-sport event shifted into higher gear on Tuesday as the National Sports Commission (NSC) announced the inaugural meeting of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) for the 23rd National Sports Festival — Enugu 2026.
The maiden MOC meeting is slated for Thursday, April 16, 2026, and will set the tone for what officials are calling a “historic edition” of the festival. This will be the first time Enugu State hosts the National Sports Festival since its inception in 1973, a milestone the NSC says signals growing trust in the South-East’s capacity to deliver world-class sporting events.
The NSC said the April 16 meeting will address the nuts and bolts of hosting over 11,000 athletes and officials, including infrastructure readiness, logistics, accommodation, security, media operations, and the overall delivery framework. Starting eight months out is a deliberate move to avoid the last-minute rush that has dogged past editions.
NSC Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, who chairs the MOC, described the festival as “a vital platform for talent discovery, youth engagement, and national unity.” For Enugu, it’s also an economic and reputational play. The state government is currently upgrading key venues, including the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and indoor halls across the capital, with the goal of leaving a lasting legacy beyond the two-week event.
“We are committed to working closely with the Enugu State Government and all stakeholders to ensure that Enugu 2026 sets a new benchmark in organisation and excellence,” Olopade said ahead of the meeting.
After Thursday’s meeting, subcommittees on venues, security, and marketing are expected to be established. Team registration and facility inspection tours will follow before the end of Q2 2026. If Enugu delivers, it could reshape how host states are picked — rewarding preparedness over politics. If it stumbles, questions around infrastructure timelines and funding will resurface. Either way, the countdown has started.

The Ogun Police Command on Tuesday, arrested and paraded 146 suspects for alleged breach of public peace, including violent protests and an attack on a health facility in Sagamu.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, paraded the suspects at the Sagamu divisional police headquarters in Sagamu.
Babaseyi was flanked by the DPO Sagamu, CSP Fred Ode, his Second-in-Command, CSP Markus Wantana, and the Vice Chairman of Sagamu LGA, Isiaka Salami.
The police spokesperson said some of the suspects were part of a group of commercial motorcycle riders (Okada operators) who unlawfully blocked the Oba Erinwole GRA Road in Sagamu on April 7, thereby impeding the movement of innocent citizens.
According to him, the actions, though premised on grievances, were unlawful and unacceptable.
He said during the demonstration, the suspects attacked a hospital facility in Sagamu and denied some patients access to healthcare.
“The men who carried out the unlawful assembly and protest attacked the health centre. If you have a protest, what do medical personnel have to do with your grievances? What does a sick person in the sick bay have to do with your protest?
“There are channels of communication. If they are aggrieved, they should write to the appropriate authorities. They know the Sagamu LG secretariat. They have liaison officers to relate with the government, but they did not do so, instead taking the law into their own hands and affecting innocent citizens.
“People were going to the hospital that day when they blocked the road, and that affected the health of those going there. That does not show good faith from those who acted in that way,” Babaseyi said.
He said 10 principal suspects had already been arrested in connection with the incident and charged to court.
According to him, in continuation of efforts, operatives of the Sagamu Area Command, in synergy with sister security agencies and community stakeholders, carried out a comprehensive, intelligence-led raid in the early hours of April 13, 2026, targeting identified criminal flashpoints within Sagamu.
He said the operation recorded significant success, with a total of 146 suspects arrested.
He said the joint exercise involved the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Amotekun Corps, the Ogun State Community Security (So-Safe) Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), demonstrating a unified and coordinated security response.
“All suspects are currently undergoing screening, and those found culpable will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, for thorough investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law,” he said.
Babaseyi quoted the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, as having read the riot act to all criminal elements and troublemakers within Sagamu and its environs.
“The Command is fully prepared, strategically positioned, and operationally equipped to deal decisively with any act of lawlessness. There will be no hiding place for individuals or groups intent on undermining public peace, as the full force of the law will be brought to bear on offenders,” the CP said.
He said the Command remains resolute in sustaining the gains recorded under “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe” through proactive, intelligence-led policing and strengthened collaboration with communities and relevant stakeholders.
Responding to questions on the right to protest, Babaseyi said, “Protest is a fundamental right, but it must be carried out within the dictates of the law. You must know that where your right ends, another person’s right begins.”
The vice chairman of Sagamu LGA, Isiaka Salami, applauded the security agencies for what he described as a prompt intervention.
He said, “We thank them for swinging into action when there was information that some people wanted to cause havoc.
“Sagamu is a very volatile place. During the cash crisis, the entire Local Government was ransacked and no place was spared.
“But this time around, the security agencies swung into action and stopped what would have become another crisis in Sagamu.”

Empower Your Team: Equip your employees with the authority and resources they need to resolve issues on the spot. Trusting your team to make decisions empowers them to provide better service and fosters a sense of ownership.
Personalize Interactions: Treat each customer as an individual with unique needs and preferences. Use their name, remember past interactions, and tailor your approach to make them feel valued and appreciated.
Go the Extra Mile: Surprise and delight your customers by exceeding their expectations. Whether it's a handwritten thank-you note, a small gift, or a personalized recommendation, little gestures can leave a lasting impression.
Be Transparent: Honesty and transparency build trust. If something goes wrong, acknowledge the mistake, apologize sincerely, and outline the steps you're taking to rectify the situation.
Continuous Improvement: Regularly assess your customer service processes and solicit feedback from both customers and employees. Look for areas where you can streamline operations, eliminate pain points, and enhance the overall experience.
Remember, exceptional customer service isn't just about resolving complaints – it's about building meaningful relationships that keep customers coming back for more. By prioritizing service excellence, you can cultivate a loyal customer base and drive long-term success for your business in Nigeria.
Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is essential for personal well-being and business success. Here are some strategies to consider:
Starting a graphic design studio in Nigeria can be a lucrative venture for creative professionals. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you launch your graphic design studio:
One of the easiest and cheapest cottage agric businesses you can start without stress is a catfish smoking business.
There are several catfish farmers in Nigeria today, so getting catfish to smoke is not a problem. All you need to start this business is skill and determination.
You don’t have to be a catfish farmer, you might not even have an idea of how fish grows but you can make big money smoking fish for fish farmers.
This is a business for both fish farmers and non-fish farmers.
Smoking fish can be easy if you follow some basic steps.
The four basic steps in smoking fish are :cleaning, curing, smoking and drying.
Tips on smoking catfish
The first step in your fish smoking business is to obtain some fresh fish.
If it doesn’t look FRESH or smell FRESH or feel FRESH, it probably isn’t, and it will make your finished product taste bad.
Use fresh fish.
Smoking will not hide old fish. The quality will be reflected.
Catfish harvest is categorize into two namely; melange (unit weight between 300g-600g) and table size (600g-above),the price/kg of melange is sold for N600 and above N800 and above for table size as at today.
The pocket size of your target audience will determine the type in terms of size of fish to smoke.
After harvesting (as a farmer) or purchasing (as a non farmer) your fresh catfish, put them in a container and add a reasonable amount of cooking salt and cover the container with a lid and place a heavy object on the lid to prevent the fish from getting out of the container.
Leave for about 30 minutes after which all the fish must have been dead then you can start the steps mentioned above.
CLEANING
• clean fish, removing the gills and intestine.
• Wash in clean water.
BRINE AND CURE
what is brine? Basically, brine is salt and water.
Soaking the fish in brine will achieve a few things:
• It will firm up the flesh to be less mushy.
• It will draw out any old blood, which will improve the taste.
• It will add some saltiness to the fish in the right amounts; this is desired.
• It will add some additional flavoring to the fish.
• The cure will ensure that we are protected from the deadly botulism bacteria, especially since this is a relatively low temperature cooking environment.
(Brine recipe • 1/2 gallon good clean spring water • 3/4 cup kosher salt (or plain salt, but not iodized salt)
SMOKING AND DRYING
• Prepare smoker. Too much smoke will cause the fish to taste bitter. Use just enough wood to maintain a steady smoke. There are various kinds of oven. We shall discuss that in another article.
